Certified Professional CHSPE Test Preparation
The CHSPE was established by California law and can provide the student the equivalent of a high school diploma. The test has two sections, English Language Arts and Mathematics. If the student passes both sections, the California State Board of Education will award them a Certificate of Proficiency which is equivalent to a high school diploma. The English Language Arts section has two subtests: Language and Reading. The Language test has 48 multiple choice questions and one writing task. The multiple choice questions measure language mechanics and expression. The writing section requires the student to write an expository essay which is scored based on writing proficiency that demonstrates the ability to address the essay’s subject. The Mathematics section has 50 multiple choice questions that cover a range of math concepts: number sense and operations; patterns, relationships and algebra; data, statistics and probability; and geometry and measurement. The length of the CHSPE is 3 ½ hours. No part of the exam is timed within that period, so students can spend as much time as they need on any portion of the test until the session ends. Synergy Academics tutors will work with students to be sure they are up to speed on the subjects that will likely be covered on the test. Tutors will provide proven strategies for standardized test taking, time management per section, and concept review that will help students be successful on the day of the official test.
