Navigating the 2020-21 School Year

There’s no doubt about it: The 2020-21 school year is going to be different than anything we’ve experienced. School districts in counties at higher risk for Covid-19 (including LA County) are mandated to begin the school year with remote learning, raising parental concerns about how their students will adapt and whether they will be able to excel academically. These issues are further complicated for working parents, whether they are returning to their offices or working from home. It can be nearly impossible to hold down a job and also monitor your children to ensure they are receiving their online education and that they are able to complete their schoolwork.

See how we can help!

Synergy Academics School Year Education Programs
Synergy Academics can provide the crucial link between formal education instruction and online at home learning. Our facility is conducive to learning and teaching, and our tutors are available to work one-on-one with your students, grades K-12, to guide them through their coursework. We match your student with a highly qualified academic tutor who is specifically chosen to complement his or her learning style. We will work with you to select the program that works best for your family, including those listed below or a customized program that better meets your needs.

  • Online School Hub and Study Center: Many families feel strongly that their children will do far better if they have a place to go on school days, rather than doing their entire school day from home. We welcome students to come to the Synergy Academics tutoring center in West Hills for their school day. They will be able to receive their online learning through laptops that they bring from home or through one of the computers at our center. Once their online class day is complete, they can work independently in our study center where there is always a proctor available to answer questions and provide assistance. (Safety is of utmost concern to us and our Covid-19 policies and procedures are described below.)
  • After School Supplemental Learning: After students receive their online instruction from their schools (either at home or in our center), consider hiring a tutor who will work one-on-one with your student for up to 2-3 hours per day as needed to review the lessons and to go over and complete homework, study for exams, and/or complete projects. This tutoring can be done in our West Hills tutoring center (with appropriate social distancing and health regulation standards as described below) or remotely via Zoom. For example, students can enroll for 2 hours per day, 5 days per week (Monday through Friday) or 3 hours per day, 3-4 days per week (flexible days). The tutoring will be customized to your student’s need with an emphasis on the subject area(s) he or she most needs assistance with.
  • Micro-Schooling Groups: This program is perfect for busy or working parents who are concerned that they don’t have the ability or time to oversee their children’s education. It also gives students (safe) interaction with peers, something that many of them have been missing during this extended shutdown. A Synergy Academics tutor will work with small groups of up to three students to assist them with their academic workload. Ideally, students will do their remote courses online from our West Hills center, and then once the formal education is complete, the group will work collaboratively with a tutor who will review the lessons taught and tutor the students as necessary to ensure they understand the material and are able to complete their homework or assignments.
  • Full Day Home School: Due to concerns about either the quality of remote learning or insufficient social distancing, many families are considering enrolling their children in a homeschool program. For families who choose one of these programs (such as Laurel Springs), Synergy Academics will provide a tutor to supplement the online learning. Tutors will work daily one-on-one with your students as a supplement to the homeschool program to make sure they understand the curriculum and to help them keep up with the work and prepare for exams, etc.

Please contact us to learn more about these programs. If you are unfamiliar with our center, we are happy to arrange a tour. During the coronavirus pandemic, we have implemented strict safety practices that comply with (and exceed) CDC guidelines, including: temperature checks, mask requirements, appropriate social distancing, desk spacing, partitions to separate students from tutors, hand sanitizer stations, and disinfecting of work stations throughout the day.

Pricing for the supplemental programs described above is available upon request, including discounts for longer term commitments. As mentioned earlier, if you are looking for academic programming that is different from what is listed above, we are happy to customize services that best meet your family’s needs. Also please note that if at any point schools return to on-campus learning, families will be able to cancel or change their tutoring/education program with us.
