Certified Professional Geometry Tutoring
In high school Geometry, generally taken freshman or sophomore year, students further their understanding of the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, and solids. In elementary school, geometry lessons focused on comparing and categorizing the attributes of shapes, while in middle school, students learned to develop a conceptual understanding of angle relationships in parallel line diagrams within and outside of triangles. Once they reach high school Geometry, students will gain a greater understanding of geometric relationships and learn to make formal mathematical arguments about geometric situations. Students will learn and understand the properties and theorems associated with geometry, and understand angles and shapes, which will be reflected in the homework, quizzes, and exams for this area of mathematics.
At this time, students will be introduced to formal geometric proofs and the study of plane figures, as well as learn about right-triangle trigonometry and circles. Common concepts your student can expect to learn while taking high school Geometry include:
- » Congruence, similarity and symmetry
- » Pythagorean Theorem → a ² + b ² + = c ²
- » Sine, cosine and tangent for acute angles
- » Correspondence between numerical coordinates and geometric points
- » Circles → find arc lengths and areas of sectors
- » Geometric Properties → express with equations and prove simple geometric theorems algebraically
