Now What?
While some students graduate from high school or college knowing exactly what life path they plan to pursue, many are uncertain. It’s not uncommon for college graduates or high school graduates who choose not to attend college to be unsure about their next steps. Regardless of their chosen path, many young adults can benefit from professional guidance, whether that involves choosing (or changing) a career, pursuing a job search, or applying to graduate school. Synergy Academics is pleased to offer services to those young people who are at a crossroads, whether that means finding or changing a career or pursuing a graduate degree.
Synergy Academics offers the following personalized services for young adults regardless of the path they choose:
Career Assessment
Synergy Academics offers clients the opportunity to take the highly regarded YouScience Assessment which, through a series of detailed and intricate questions, helps define the test taker’s strengths and abilities and offers suggestions of many potential career choices. Once the assessment has been completed, a Synergy Academics Counselor will carefully review the results with the client and help him or her to determine next steps.
Resume Development
Submitting a strong resume is one of the most critical steps in applying for a job. Often employers receive dozens, if not hundreds, of applications for open jobs and only have a few moments to review each resume. Having a resume that stands out is critical to getting past this first screening step. Our counselors will help clients develop a highly effective resume that highlights their experience and showcases their unique skills and abilities. Additionally, the counselor will make sure the resume is free of typos and grammatical errors and is also aesthetically appealing.
Cover Letter
In addition to a resume, many employers ask applicants to submit a cover letter. This letter provides another opportunity to demonstrate how one’s skills and experiences make them a strong candidate for the job. Synergy Academics Counselors will help clients compose cover letters that are effective and specific to the job being applied for, highlighting the applicant’s skills that make him or her a good match for the job.
Interviewing
Whether interviewing for a job, college/graduate school admission, or a scholarship, it is important to foster excellent interviewing skills and to have the ability to sell oneself without appearing arrogant or flustered. Synergy Academics Counselors assist clients with general communication, intricate preparation for specific interviews, and confidence building. When applying for jobs, it’s important to have a strong understanding of the firm or organization, as well as the job itself. Counselors offer mock interviews to help clients anticipate the questions that will be asked and to be prepared with highly effective responses and confidence due to desensitization.
Graduate School Applications and Personal Statements
Those applying to graduate school (and/or for scholarships) will go through a process similar to applying to college, but there are differences depending on what graduate degree the student is pursuing. A Synergy Academics Counselor can assist students with developing a list of graduate programs to apply to, taking the appropriate standardized tests, obtaining letters of recommendations and completing the applications. Graduate school applicants are typically required to write personal statements and/or essays as part of their application packets. Synergy Academics Counselors work with clients to come up with distinctive and compelling topics. They help their clients to compose effective essays that showcase the clients’ strengths and demonstrate why they should be admitted to the graduate program or why they should receive the scholarship. In this day and age, with the highly competitive admissions process, we are committed to helping our clients stand out!
